Learn with Alex, private lessons built around one goal
Behind Learn with Alex is Alex da Silva, who has been teaching English, Spanish and Portuguese for more than ten years, and now does so from Maspalomas, Gran Canaria. He does not work through a textbook from cover to cover. He builds each programme around what the student actually wants to do with the language, pass an exam, run a meeting, settle on the island, or simply speak without hunting for words.
It started in 2014, in a private school in the United Kingdom, where he prepared international students for the IELTS and TOEIC exams, the entry point to university, with a high success rate. He qualified in Teaching English as a Foreign Language in 2019, and has worked with companies and with individuals worldwide ever since.

English is still the core of his work. English classes Maspalomas cover general English, Business English, IELTS and TOEIC preparation, public speaking, and a soft British accent that is easy to understand and to reproduce, trained through pronunciation work. Whether the goal is a band score, a job interview, or the confidence to speak up in a meeting, the material is chosen to serve it.
Spanish, as it is actually spoken in the Canaries
Spanish is aimed first at people living in the Canaries or about to move there. A Spanish resident himself, Alex teaches everyday language, not the textbook version. Spanish at Learn with Alex leans heavily on role play and conversation: ordering, talking to neighbours, handling an administrative appointment, joining a conversation without dreading it.
European Portuguese, his mother tongue
He teaches its accent, widely considered daunting, using Spanish as a point of comparison when the student already speaks it. Useful for working with Portuguese counterparts, and for anyone following the digital nomad wave to Lisbon or Porto.
For individuals
One-to-one courses at Learn with Alex are tailored, whatever the starting level. Lessons are interactive and draw on varied resources: speaking, listening, writing, reading, public speaking, exam preparation, self-correction. The pace follows the student, an hour a week for some, more intensive sessions for others, and the programme is adjusted along the way rather than fixed at the outset.
For companies
English classes Maspalomas also run inside companies, from Business English courses to group workshops, across very different sectors: marketing, hospitality, human resources, finance, operations and logistics, engineering, medical, general business, plus TOEIC and IELTS preparation. In a group setting, Learn with Alex drills real-time practice and role play on what really counts: chairing a meeting, presenting a project, negotiating with a foreign counterpart.
Learn with Alex in Maspalomas or online, on your schedule
Lessons are taught in person in Maspalomas and online, anywhere in the world. Hours are flexible, early in the morning, late at night, weekends included, which makes the whole thing workable alongside a demanding job, a tourist season, or a time difference.
