An Engaged Crowdfunding Campaign for an Independent Queer Animated Film

The creation of Jim Queen, a queer animated film, would not have been possible without the strong support of the LGBTQ+ community and its allies. To ensure full artistic independence and bring this bold project to life, the Bobbypills studio team launched a crowdfunding campaign on Ulule at the end of 2025.
The campaign, extended due to overwhelming public enthusiasm, raised over €100,000 thanks to nearly 1,900 contributors. This popular success demonstrates the high anticipation for a film that dares to tackle health, identity, and queer humor without compromise. The funds collected made it possible to complete production, secure an English-language dub, and boost the film’s visibility at festivals and with international audiences.
The community’s engagement didn’t stop there: each backer could choose exclusive rewards (posters, goodies, early screenings…), creating a real bond between the queer animated film and its audience. This participatory approach embodies the solidarity and creativity that drive today’s LGBTQ+ scene.
By betting on crowdfunding, Jim Queen asserts its independence and its desire to proudly represent diversity, while offering a unique space for gay health and representation in animated cinema.
