Héroes Bar by Katalex is a small gay bar in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, on Calle Santiago in El Toscal, the old neighbourhood of narrow streets next to the city centre. It welcomes the LGBTQ+ community and anyone else who enjoys a relaxed night out, and it has become a familiar address for karaoke in the capital.
The bar opens on Friday and Saturday nights, from 23:30 until 04:30. Karaoke is the main draw, alongside cocktails, milkshakes and simple bar food to share, and the team regularly hosts live performances and celebrations. The space can also be booked for private parties and events, which suits birthdays and group nights out.
Compared with the bigger nightlife of the south of the island, Héroes keeps a cosy, neighbourhood feel, and the welcome from the staff is what most visitors remember. It makes a good stop during the Carnival season, when Santa Cruz fills with visitors, and its Instagram account is the place to check special nights and guest singers before you go.
