Sauna Nieuwezijds, often called NZ, is tucked away in a narrow lane, Nieuwezijds Armsteeg, in the old centre of Amsterdam, a few minutes from Dam Square and Central Station. Its location makes it a handy gay sauna in Amsterdam for anyone staying in the old centre. Men are welcome from 18 years old, with a relaxed dress code: swimwear, towel or nothing at all.
Facilities include a dry sauna with infusion ceremonies, a steam sauna, a bar and darker cruising areas with dark rooms. Certified masseurs are available from 2 pm until around midnight, and booking at the bar or by phone is recommended. Each day of the week has its own mood: Mellow Monday with free shoulder massages, No Towel Tuesday when everyone goes naked, a queer night on Wednesdays, and The Night Is Young on Thursdays for guys aged 18 to 26. Bears and their admirers meet on the last Saturday of the month.
Standard entry is €28 including a first drink, €19.50 for those 26 and under. NZ opens at noon every day and closes at 2 am, or at 10 am on Friday and Saturday nights.
