Hafen opened on Motzstraße in November 1990 and has been a fixture of Schöneberg’s gay village ever since, a short walk from Nollendorfplatz. If you are looking for a gay bar in Berlin with real history and no pretension, this is a natural first stop: the crowd mixes gay men, lesbians and their friends, Berliners and visitors from all over the world, and the unusual decor has always been part of its charm.
The bar opens every evening from 7 pm until 4 am. Most nights are about conversation and drinks, but the calendar fills up with DJ parties: Schlager evenings with DJ derMicha, pop and electro nights, a techno party for Halloween and a Sunday disco night called Sunny Night. Big moments such as the Eurovision final are screened live, and in winter the team keeps up its tradition of monthly themed parties.
Summer evenings are especially busy, and Hafen has hosted the closing party of the Motzstraße street festival. It is an easy place to start a night in the neighbourhood, with several other venues just a few steps away.
