Circuit Festival Barcelona is the largest international gay festival of the European summer, and the 2026 edition runs from 1 to 9 August. For nine days the Catalan capital fills with more than seventy thousand party-goers from over a hundred nationalities, drawn by a line-up of international DJs, productions built on a stadium scale and a rhythm that runs from sunrise pool sessions to night-time mega-parties.
Circuit Festival Barcelona, eighteen years of turning August into a pilgrimage
The festival was created in 2008 by the Barcelona-based Matinée Group, the producers behind the Matinee brand that now tours more than twenty countries. What began as a cluster of summer parties has become the single event that puts Barcelona on the LGBTIQ+ map every August, to the point that flights and hotel rooms in the city are noticeably harder to find during that week.
The highlights of Circuit Festival Barcelona 2026
The nine days are built around one daytime landmark and a chain of nights. Put the first one in the diary before you book anything else, because it is the one that disappears first.
Water Park Day, the one that sells out first
If you only do one thing all week, do this one. Water Park Day takes over the Illa Fantasia water park on Tuesday 4 August and lasts almost twenty-four hours. From 10am to 2pm the park is yours for the slides and the pools in a relaxed daytime atmosphere. From 2pm to 10pm the open-air Main Stage takes over, closing with fireworks. Then Water Park Night runs from 10pm to 6am inside the park’s own club with a headline DJ line-up. It is the most popular day of the festival by a wide margin, and it is the first to sell out.
Getting to Illa Fantasia
The water park sits outside the city, so the festival runs its own shuttle. Buses leave from right outside the Hard Rock Cafe at Plaça Catalunya 21, roughly every five minutes from 9:30am until 6:30am the following morning. Do not count on taxis or public transport for the return: the shuttle is the only realistic way back into town at four in the morning, and it is included in most ticket formulas.
Days and nights, two festivals in one
Beyond the water park, the festival is built on a double rhythm. Daytime brings pool parties and open-air sessions where the crowd is lighter and the music warmer. Nights move into large indoor venues, mostly in and around the Eixample district, for productions with full stage design, dancers and international headliners running until dawn. Between the two, the festival programme also makes room for leisure, sport and cultural activities, which is what distinguishes it from a simple string of club nights.
Circuit Festival Barcelona tickets, passes and where to stay
Two decisions shape the budget of the week: which passes you buy, and which neighbourhood you sleep in. Both are cheaper and easier the earlier you settle them.
Tickets and passes
Tickets are sold through the official website and through Ticketmaster. For Water Park Day you can choose a day pass, a night pass or a total party pass covering both. Single tickets exist for individual nights, and multi-party passes are the sensible choice if you are staying the full nine days. Prices rise as the festival gets closer and the flagship events sell out well in advance, so booking early is not a precaution, it is the norm.
Where to stay
Most night venues are in or near the Eixample, which also covers the Gaixample, the district where the city’s gay bars and hotels are concentrated. Staying there puts you within walking distance of the majority of the programme. Sitges, forty minutes away by train, is a popular alternative for those who want beach days between parties, and many festival-goers combine the two.
Practical information for Circuit Festival Barcelona 2026
The festival runs 1 to 9 August 2026 across several venues in Barcelona. August in Catalonia is hot and humid, the pace is relentless and the parties genuinely go on until sunrise, so plan sleep like you plan tickets. Check the official website for the final line-up and the venue of each party, since locations are confirmed progressively through the spring and early summer.
Why Circuit Festival Barcelona is worth the trip
Very few LGBTIQ+ events in the world combine this scale, this level of production and a host city as pleasant as Barcelona. Nine days, a hundred nationalities, a water park turned into a dance floor and a beach fifteen minutes from the dance floor: Circuit Festival Barcelona remains the reference of the European summer circuit scene, and 2026 is its eighteenth consecutive edition.
