GAT Checkpoint LX is a community-based sexual health centre in Lisbon run by GAT, a Portuguese organisation working on HIV and health. Aimed at men who have sex with men, it offers free STI testing in Lisbon in Príncipe Real, on Travessa do Monte do Carmo, a few steps from the area’s gay bars.
The core service is rapid HIV testing: a few drops of blood taken from a fingertip give a result in about 20 minutes, and the test is anonymous, confidential and free. The centre also screens for other sexually transmitted infections and viral hepatitis, gives counselling and refers people to the national health service when treatment is needed. Its pages cover PrEP, post-exposure prophylaxis and the signs of acute HIV infection, and GAT runs an integrated support service for people who practise chemsex.
Checkpoint LX is open on weekdays from 12:00 to 20:00, with admission for screening ending an hour before closing. Appointments are made by phone, and the team can also be reached by email. The centre also accepts donations to support its work.
