Punto BCN is a gay bar in Barcelona on Carrer de Muntaner, in the Eixample, a few minutes from the Universitat metro station. It opened in 1990 and is the original venue of Grupo Arena, the company behind several of the city’s best known gay clubs, so it has seen generations of locals and visitors pass through its doors.
The space is large and straightforward, with a long bar on the ground floor, a mezzanine with tables and chairs, and a pool table that is often in use. The bar opens in the early evening, from 18:00, which makes it a good place for a first drink or a chat before heading to the clubs. Entry is free, and the group mentions a free snack served with each drink.
Over the years Punto has also hosted stand-up comedy, drag performances and DJ sets, with a focus on giving a stage to emerging artists from the LGBTQ+ community. Follow its Facebook page for upcoming events.
